Get it together Republicans

Ok, we finally have a deal in principle. The only problem is it might not pass the House because President Bush's own party can't get past their own ideological rhetoric. Even today, prominent members of the Republican party like Newt Gingrich are calling this "An un-American bailout of Wall Street!"

Well Mr Gingrich, I beg to differ. This is a bailout of Main St. not Wall St. and it's not even really a bailout. First of all, in a bailout I give you money for nothing to cover your losses. What we have here is a transaction; Money for Goods. The goods? Are the loans that the government will buy with the intention of reselling at auction. Does it sound like a bailout to you? Nah, me neither, more like speculative investing. On top of that, this will free up cash for banks to actually lend money. Helping the folks on Main St. (small business owners) get the loans and credit they need to operate. Small business can then grow, providing jobs for the Average Joe on the unemployment line. Are you following me Mssrs. Pence and Gingrich?

Another fact of life the Republicans need to wake up to; contrary to popular belief, the government stepping in to steady the economy in times of crisis, does not go against their own economic policies. I realize, the Republicans are all for smaller government and to let the economy work, so am I. However, there are times when the economy gets so out of whack, that government intervention is not only a good thing, it also happens to be a necessary thing.
This just so happens to be one of those times. The President sees that, the Democrats see that, why can't the Republicans see that?

The Republicans have gaffed this up so badly, they may have caused John McCain the election. The Democrats look like they are the ones to get this plan done with the President. Also they were able to put in constraints on the plan, which may or may not prove to be wise, but are definitely popular with the average American. In short, they look like the party that wants to help the economy and by way of the economy, the average American. While the Republicans appear to be playing the part of Nero; strumming the fiddle to their heart's content...while Rome burns. In my humble opinion any momentum McCain had picked up by choosing Gov. Palin has now been forfeit.

The Republicans will live to rue the day they could not see past their own stubborn noses. President Obama will be a constant reminder for four to eight years.

As always, this has been my slightly obstructed view...from the cheep seats.
